Comprising over 10’000 household possessions and part of the family home, the installation is a tribute to his mother,who made this collection over a period of five decades.
One has to see this exhibition in order to begin to grasp the devotion and the time it has taken Song Dong’s mother to collect these objects in themselves of no value.. Being frugal was the only way to survive and by saving every little item that came her way, she actually cared for her family.
This installation had been a reminder for me of the heavy price we and our planet pay by living in a consumer society, in which constant buying and replacing the “old” has become the ultimate desire.
